How will Pride help me prepare to foster
Skills to Foster
In order to prepare new Foster Carers for the many demanding and complex aspects of fostering, Pride runs a 3 day ‘Skills to Foster’ training course which all potential carers must attend.
All applicants (i.e. both partners) are expected to attend this, along with any other adult resident in your household. The preparation training is also a chance for you to ask questions, think about aspects of fostering you may not yet have considered, to take part in informal discussions and to meet other applicants, Foster Carers and staff members.
The Skills to Foster course material covers:
- The role of the foster carer
- Working with local authorities and families
- Listening skills for working with young people
- Safer caring
- Fostering skills
- Managing difficult behaviour
- The potential needs of Looked After Children
- Moving children on
After approval our Foster Carers are expected to attend a variety of training courses to learn about the various aspects of caring for children. Please look at the ‘Training ‘section to find out more about the courses available.
For carers wishing to provide care for a child with a disability, we will provide a further two day training course
Please note there is no charge for potential carers for attending trainings.
