It is the 16th June, Fresh Veggies Day. Nutritionists believe that the majority of people do not eat enough vegetables per day. It is the beginning of summer so healthy, fresh, tasty fruit and vegetables are in season. Of course you can purchase fresh fruit and vegetable from your local supermarket, but why not also go to your local farmers market for some fresh produce.
Many foster children who come into care come from a background of neglect, with many not having even tasted fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately there are a number of young people who come into care where their health has been neglected and it is part of the foster carers role to ensure that they maintain a balanced lifestyle, encouraging the child to pursue hobbies and leisure pursuits. Teeth and eyes are often neglected, so foster carers will ensure the young people in their care undertake regular optician and dentist appointments.
